So, how does a designer and illustrator like me end up working with the writer/director of Clerks, Clerks II, Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back, Dogma, Jersey Girl, Tusk, and AMC's Comic Book Men... and more?

It all started in 2011 when Kevin and Scott Mosier went to Halifax to record SMODCAST 200 and I was lucky enough to get a
fan poster in front of them and get it autographed. That got me noticed.

Fast forward a couple years later and I'm contacted by Kevin's View Askew Street Hockey League (VASHL) to join and create new team logos. With their support, my artwork is starting to get noticed a lot more by the "Silent One" himself. In 2015 when Kevin announced he's filming his latest movie Yoga Hosers featuring his daughter Harley Quinn Smith and Lilly Rose Depp (daughter of Johnny), I illustrated a little something and tossed it out on Instagram. Kevin saw it, liked it, and then asked if I'd be interested in working with him to create a comic book to accompany the Yoga Hosers Sundance Film Festival midnight premier and following screenings! Of course, I said yes!

Me: "A 20-page comic book? Sounds fun. How much time do I have?"
Kevin: "Needs to be at the printer in 5 days"

Me: "Holy $#!%...That's a tall order, sir!"

As amazing an experience the comic book and Sundance was... that wasn't the end!

Shortly after my return from Sundance, Kevin revealed on his social media that he had voiced a First Order Stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. With that, I decided to create another illustration - a mashup of a Trooper helmet profile with a modification to it to salute 'Silent Bob', Kevin's alter ego.

I put it out on Instagram and tagged Kevin. Not only did he see it and like it, but he also wanted it to be his next jersey crest design. Lightning had struck twice!

Now, the majority of the jersey crests Kevin wears are my creation. I'm proud that my 'Mr. Silent Tusk' crest was the jersey design of season 6, and my 'Secret Stash 20th Anniversary' crest was the jersey design of season 7 of AMC's Comic Book Men. In addition, Kevin asked that I drape the exterior of Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash (the iconic home-base comic book store for the series) with my artwork. "Art begets art" my friends.

CREST DESIGN

"Sometimes an artist is so talented, they create an entirely new business opportunity for you. That’s what meeting and working with Jeff Quigley was like for me."

Our meet-cute goes like this: Quigley did a piece of art based on one of my movies and posted it online. A single image, it was so powerful, I decided it needed an entire comic book to match it. So I hired Jeff to draw a 20 page comic book - which he did in a week. We distributed the comic at screenings of the movie at the Sundance Film Festival and then sold it in comic book stores across America.

That enterprise went so well, I started commissioning artwork from Jeff for original crests to stick on my hockey sweaters. People liked Jeff’s designs so much, I had to start selling them to fans. Now we co-own a thriving hockey jersey business online called Kev’s New Jerseys.

Point of all this? Jeff Quigley is a master graphic designer who can help you build your business or even inspire you to start a business in the first place. I can’t recommend him enough.
